Environmental education during the pandemic by HELMEPA Junior

Providing a different note to the particular learning conditions that the educational community is experiencing due to the pandemic, HELMEPA’s scientific staff launched a series of online "visits" to schools across the country, aiming to continue to spread the message of the value of environmental awareness for a better and sustainable planet.

To date, 40 presentations have been made to the e-classes of 32 kindergartens and primary schools in Aiginio in Pieria, Alexandroupoli, Armenochori in Florina, Athens, Chania, Corfu, Edessa, Feres in Evros, Gargalianoi in Messenia, Giannitsa, Heraklion in Crete, Ioannina, Kosmio in Rhodope, Lesvos, Loutraki, Mykonos, Nea Makri, Parga, Piraeus, Poros, Salamina, Syros, Thessaloniki, Vagia and Mavrommati in Voiotia and Veroia.

More than 1,000 children attended the online presentations and were informed, among other, about the invaluable contribution of seas and oceans in our lives, as well as climate change and the many risks that the marine environment is facing due to human indifference and negligence.

This year's HELMEPA Junior program titled "Our friend, the Sea", is being carried out with the approval of the Hellenic Ministry of Education and Religious Affairs. During 27 years of the program’s operation, a total of 123,500 children and 4,208 volunteer-teachers from 1,576 schools have carried out 37,300 environmental activities nationwide, as members of the program, conveying to their local communities the message for Clean Seas and Beaches.

HELMEPA congratulates the teachers throughout the country for continuing their educational work in difficult conditions, as well as the children, who with their environmental sensitivity make us more optimistic for a brighter future!
