Visual art competition

Every year, HELMEPA announces the Panhellenic Visual Art Competition for Gymnasium and Lyceum students from all over Greece.
The 2025-2026 contest welcomed the participation of 238 students, of which 116 were from Gymnasium and 122 from Lyceum respectively.
There are two (2) student categories on this contest:
1st Category – Gymnasium Schools of Greece
2nd Category – Lyceum Schools of Greece
Conditions and Technical Characteristics:

The participants must be students of Gymnasium or Lyceum
-
The visual art should be either a painting, or a photograph, or a collage, or a slogan that strengthens HELMEPA's action for the protection of the seas
-
Each art must be unique, one from each participant
-
Dimension: The art must be in horizontal A3 format (42x29,7 cm)
-
Scanned file: PDF or JPEG with 300 DPI resolution and high quality
-
To be accompanied by the appropriate Declaration of Responsibility
a) for participants under 18 years of age (completed by a parent/guardian) or
b) for participants over 18 years of age (completed by a student)

Two (2) awards are presented:
-
One to a Lyceym Student that “dresses” HELMEPA’s new thermos including the name of the artist and
-
One to a Gymnasium Student that “dresses” the new HELMEPA multi-purpose bag, including the name of the artist.
All artworks that meet the competition criteria are part of the group exhibition titled “Ocean Aware Through Artivism”, hosted for the past two years at the Stelios Foundation Conference Hall, in the heart of Athens, in Plaka.
Every May, for two weeks, the exhibition welcomes school groups and visitors of all ages. Students participate in interactive presentations and discussions on the importance of the ocean for life on Earth, marine pollution and the need for its prevention, climate change and its impact on marine ecosystems, as well as the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
In addition, the artworks are showcased at Posidonia, the most prominent international shipping event held every two years, sending powerful messages for the protection of the seas through the artistic expression of the younger generation.
