HELMEPA's upgraded Full Mission Bridge Simulator offers top-level, realistic training for deck officers of all ranks — helping them navigate complex environments, manage emergencies, and lead bridge teams with confidence.

Certified to ISO 9001:2015 quality standards, our simulator courses are available to HELMEPA member companies, independent seafarers, and maritime academies.

Over 2,000 Greek and foreign merchant marine officers have trained on HELMEPA's Bridge Simulator.

The simulator is fully equipped with all bridge instruments found onboard a real vessel:

  • GPS, AIS, Echo-Sounder, Speed Log, VDR, NAVTEX

  • RADAR, GMDSS, VHF/HF Communications

  • Ship Control & Conning Display, ECDIS

 Training capabilities include:

  • Navigation & passage planning/execution

  • Ship handling, maneuvering & collision avoidance

  • Navigation in confined/restricted waters

  • Ship-to-Ship (STS) transfer operations

COURSES
  • 5 days | 40 hours (20 hrs classroom + 20 hrs simulator)

    Follows IMO Model Course 1.22. Approved by the Cyprus Flag Administration — participants can obtain the official Cyprus Flag BRM Statutory Certificate upon successful completion.

    Transitioning to the updated 2023 IMO Model Course 1.22 (focus on human factors & soft skills).

  • 3 days | 21 hours (7 hrs classroom + 14 hrs simulator)

    Refreshes BRM principles and covers advanced maneuvering under real-world forces: wind, current, shallow water, squat, bank effects, heavy weather. Simulator practice includes mooring/unmooring, anchoring, SBM operations, and use of tugs.

  • 2 days | 14 hours (6 hrs classroom + 8 hrs simulator)

    In-depth analysis of COLREGs (Parts B & C). Simulator exercises on safe navigation and collision avoidance in dense traffic and fishing areas, enhanced by real marine incident case studies.

  • 2 days | 14 hours (6 hrs classroom + 8 hrs simulator)

    Based on real incidents from VIRP, MAIB, CHIRP, and MARS reports. Focuses on groundings, collisions, BRM failures, and COLREGs issues — with simulator re-enactments for in-depth analysis.

  • 2 days | 14 hours (6hrs classroom + 8 hrs simulator)

    Covers STS operation procedures, risk management, ship handling, fendering, and mooring. Simulator scenarios include engine failure, equipment malfunction, wind, current, and shallow water effects.

  • 2 days | 6 hours | Up to 8 participants per group

    An introductory course designed for maritime professionals new to the fundamentals of bridge operations. It combines expert-led presentations, hands-on simulator practice, and collaborative activities to build essential knowledge and operational awareness.

Participants will:

  • Understand the basic roles, responsibilities, and functions of shipboard organization and bridge operations

  • Explore environmental and operational factors that influence ship handling and STS operations

  • Practice ship approach, interaction, and mooring procedures through simulator exercises

  • Strengthen awareness of sustainability and environmental protection — reinforcing their commitment, as HELMEPA members, "To Save the Seas"

INSTRUCTORS

All instructors hold extensive maritime training expertise and are certified per STCW Requirements and IMO Model Courses 1.22 (BRM) and 1.27 (ECDIS).

CERTIFICATION

All participants who successfully complete a course receive a HELMEPA Maritime Training Center Certificate (ISO 9001:2015).

Note

HS1 graduates may additionally obtain the Cyprus Flag BRM Statutory Certificate
