The thematic Deputy Regional Minister of Environment, Energy and Spatial Planning of the Ionian Islands, Mr. Spyros Ioannou, who participated in the presentation, greeted the teachers and congratulated them for their participation in programs aimed at creating responsible and environmentally sensitized future citizens. He also referred to the Memorandum of Cooperation between HELMEPA and the Region of Ionian Islands, with the aim of jointly promoting cooperation on education and awareness raising in the fields of Marine Environment Protection and Safety at Sea.

The teachers of the 14 schools of the island who participated in the online presentation, had the opportunity to learn about the aims and operation of the “HELMEPA Junior” Program and how they can play an active role together with their students in the global efforts to achieve Goal 14 – “Life Below Water” of United Nations Agenda 2030 for Sustainable Development. Moreover, they were informed about the possibility of arranging an online tour of HELMEPA’s environmental Exhibitions for their students, aged 8-12. The event came to a close with an interesting discussion between teachers and the competent HELMEPA staff.
